Our Drives: Communicate, Educate, and Entertain

Unlimbited Independence It's been a life time, but yet only seven months ago today. It was July 3, 2009; I was in a car accident while driving home from a late afternoon business meeting. I awoke the next day, unable to speak or shout due to a tube in my throat. My arms were in restraints and I was alone. I was having a nightmare. I closed my eyes and fell asleep. When I awoke again, I saw a man walk by my bed. I tried to get his attention, but he was walking too fast. I struggled against my restraints and out of frustration closed my eyes. When I opened them again, the man was standing next to my bed. I thought to myself, he must be a nurse or someone who is going to help me. He didn't say anything. I couldn't say anything. He walked away. I think I started to feel angry. I closed my eyes. When I opened my eyes, my wife was standing next to my bed, my nightmare was over!
On July 20, 2009, my left leg was amputated below the knee. My right leg was amputated, below the knee, ten days later. Our lives have been changing with each passing day. We had so many questions and sometimes we didn't know how to ask what we needed to know. God has placed some tremendous people in our path. We hope to Communicate to all those that want to know the information and lessons we have learned.
If you have any questions concerning Limb loss, Prostheses, Social Security Disability, and Family issues associated with Hospitalization, Rehabilitation, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Mobilization and Support Groups we welcome your questions and comments. A wise person once told me we all have something we can offer, something we can learn from each other.
